200A Panel Upgrade in Hauppauge, NY
Replaced an aging 100A panel with 200A service on a mid-century Hauppauge ranch so it could handle central AC and a future EV charger.
The problem
A Hauppauge homeowner with a 1960s ranch was tripping the main breaker on hot days. The home still ran on its original 100A service with an aging panel, and the family wanted to add central air and an EV charger — neither of which the existing service could safely support.
Our solution
We performed an on-site load calculation, confirmed the existing service was maxed out, and quoted a fixed-price 200A upgrade. We pulled the town electrical permit, coordinated the PSEG Long Island cut-in, and replaced the panel and meter pan in a single day, adding whole-home surge protection and AFCI/GFCI breakers where current code requires them.
The result
The home now has clean, labeled 200A service with headroom for central AC and a Level 2 EV charger. Power was off for only a few hours, the work passed third-party inspection, and the homeowner has documentation for insurance.
