EV charger installation cost
Homes with room in a 200A panel and a garage near the panel are the simplest installs. A longer run, a detached garage or a panel upgrade adds work. A 200A panel upgrade typically runs $3,000–$4,500. Our EV pricing covers installation; you supply the charger.
EV charger packages
| Package | What's included | Price* |
|---|---|---|
| NEMA 14-50 outlet | Dedicated 14-50 outlet with the panel nearby, permit, inspection (you supply the charger) | $650–$1,100 |
| Level 2 / Wall Connector | Hardwired Level 2 or Tesla Wall Connector install with the panel nearby, permit, inspection, rebate paperwork help (you supply the charger) | $950–$1,800 |
| Long run | Longer run through a finished basement or to a detached garage, exterior or pedestal mount | $1,400–$2,800 |
| EV + Panel Bundle | 100A to 200A service upgrade plus charger installation, one load calculation, PSEG Long Island service coordination | $4,000–$6,000 |
| Commercial Level 2 | Multi-port Level 2 for offices, condos, HOAs, landlords and retail | Free quote (per project) |
*Typical installed ranges. Every job still gets a free quote after a quick look at your panel and site, and you get a fixed price before any work starts. EV prices cover installation only; you supply the charger.
What drives EV install cost
- Distance from your panel to where you park. Every extra foot of heavy-gauge wire adds cost; detached garages may need trenching.
- Panel capacity. A load calculation tells us whether your panel can take a 40–60A circuit or needs an upgrade or load management.
- You supply the charger; our price covers the installation. A NEMA 14-50 outlet is the simplest option; a hardwired Wall Connector or smart charger can charge faster.
- Wall and finish work. Finished basements, masonry and long exterior runs take more labor.
- Permit and inspection fees, which vary by town and village.
Panel upgrades & PSEG Long Island
Panel and service upgrades need PSEG Long Island in the loop. For many single-family homes with overhead service up to 200A, the electrician can use PSEG Long Island's CONNECTS procedure: we file the CONNECTS form with the electrical inspection certificate, which can save you waiting on a separate utility appointment. Underground services, upgrades over 200A and some other setups go through PSEG Long Island's standard Upgrade/Change Service request instead. Either way, we handle the paperwork.
Rebates & credits
PSEG Long Island EV charger rebate (2026): the real numbers
- $100 rebate for a qualifying Level 2 smart charger on the EPRI vetted product list.
- $400 total for customers in a Disadvantaged Community (DAC) or on PSEG Long Island's Household Assistance program.
- The charger must be bought on or after January 1, 2026 and installed by a licensed electrician.
- You (the homeowner) apply with your receipt and two photos of the installed charger. Funding is limited each year. We give you the receipt details, serial number and photos you need.
- The federal 30C EV charger tax credit ended for chargers placed in service after June 30, 2026, so don't count on it for a new install.
Some Long Island sites still advertise a $500 PSEG rebate plus a federal tax credit. Based on PSEG Long Island's and the IRS's own pages, that's out of date. Rebates change, so check PSEG Long Island's page before you buy.
Standby generator installation cost
A typical 22 kW whole-home generator runs $10,500–$14,500 installed. Price depends mostly on generator size, the transfer switch and the gas run. Our packages are turnkey: generator, pad, transfer switch, electrical work, gas hookup by a licensed plumber, and permits.
Generator packages
| Package | What's included | Price* |
|---|---|---|
| Generator Essentials | About 10–14 kW standby unit, essentials transfer switch, pad, gas hookup by a licensed plumber, permits | $6,500–$9,500 |
| Generator Whole-Home | About 20–22 kW standby unit, whole-home automatic transfer switch, pad, gas, permits | $10,500–$14,500 |
| Generator Premium | About 24–26 kW standby unit for larger homes, whole-home ATS, pad, gas, permits | $12,500–$16,500 |
| Annual maintenance | Yearly service visit: oil, filters, plugs, battery test | About $300/yr |
| Interlock + inlet (portable generator) | Panel interlock kit, outdoor inlet box, permit and inspection | $1,000–$2,000 |
| Manual transfer switch (portable generator) | Manual transfer switch sized to your circuits | Free quote (per project) |
*Typical installed ranges. Every job still gets a free quote after a quick look at your panel and site, and you get a fixed price before any work starts. EV prices cover installation only; you supply the charger. Larger liquid-cooled units (30 kW and up) are quoted per project.
What drives generator cost
- Generator size. Essentials-only (about 10–14 kW) costs far less than whole-home (about 20–26 kW) or large liquid-cooled units.
- Transfer switch. A whole-home automatic transfer switch costs more than an essentials-circuit switch.
- Gas run. A licensed plumber runs the gas line; long runs, a gas-meter upgrade or a propane tank add cost.
- Panel condition. Older 100A, Federal Pacific or Zinsco panels may need replacing first.
- Pad, placement and clearances, plus town electrical and gas/plumbing permits.
Gas work
Natural gas and propane connections are made by a licensed plumber under a separate gas/plumbing permit. We coordinate the plumber, the gas permit and any gas-meter upgrade so you deal with one point of contact.
Timeline
Plan on about 3–8 weeks from signed contract to a running generator. Most of that is town permits, the gas permit and equipment delivery. The install itself is usually 1–2 days.

Commercial EV charging: incentives for businesses, condos and landlords
- PSEG Long Island EV Make Ready (Level 2): customer-side incentive caps of up to $3,000 per port (private sites), $5,000 per port (public) or $6,500 per port (public, in a Disadvantaged Community). Minimum 2 ports. Level 2 applications were still being accepted and funded as of PSEG's April 21, 2026 notice.
- NYSERDA Charge Ready NY 2.0: $3,000 per Level 2 port at workplaces, multifamily properties (10+ units) and hotels (plus $1,000 per port in a Disadvantaged Community), first-come, first-served while funds last. Ports assigned to one driver or reserved for fleet get $1,000.
- NY State's alternative-fuel/EV recharging property tax credit (50% up to $5,000) applies only to chargers used at least 50% in a NY trade or business, not a personal home charger. Ask your accountant.
- Actual incentives depend on your site, costs and program rules, and whether programs can be combined depends on each program's terms. We help prepare the applications.

Cost questions Long Island homeowners ask
How much is the PSEG Long Island EV charger rebate in 2026?
$100 for a qualifying Level 2 smart charger, or $400 total for Disadvantaged Community or Household Assistance customers. The charger must be bought on or after January 1, 2026 and installed by a licensed contractor, and the homeowner applies with a receipt and two photos. Funding is limited.
Can I still get the federal EV charger tax credit?
Not for a new install. The federal 30C credit ended for chargers placed in service after June 30, 2026.
Who applies for the PSEG rebate, me or the electrician?
You do. We give you the receipt details, charger serial number and install photos so the application is quick.
Do I need a panel upgrade for an EV charger?
Not always. We do a load calculation first. Many 200A homes have room for a 40–60A circuit. Older 100A homes may need an upgrade or a load-management device, and we'll price both options.
How much does EV charger installation cost on Long Island?
Installation only (you supply the charger): a NEMA 14-50 outlet with the panel nearby runs $650–$1,100, a Level 2 or Wall Connector install with the panel nearby runs $950–$1,800, a long run through a finished basement or to a detached garage runs $1,400–$2,800, and an EV install bundled with a 200A panel upgrade runs $4,000–$6,000. Commercial Level 2 is quoted per project. Every quote is free.
Does the installation price include the charger?
No. Our EV price covers the installation: circuit, wiring, breaker, permit and inspection. You buy the charger yourself, and we'll confirm the model fits your panel and qualifies for the PSEG Long Island rebate before you order.
Is financing available?
Yes, financing is available on qualifying projects. Ask when you request your estimate.
How long does a standby generator take from start to finish?
Plan on about 3–8 weeks from signed contract to a running generator. Most of that is town permits, the gas permit and equipment delivery. The install itself is usually 1–2 days.
How much does a standby generator cost on Long Island?
Installed with transfer switch, pad, gas hookup and permits: about $6,500–$9,500 for an essentials system (10–14 kW), $10,500–$14,500 for a typical 22 kW whole-home unit, and $12,500–$16,500 for a 24–26 kW unit. Annual maintenance is about $300 a year. For a portable generator, an interlock, inlet and permit runs $1,000–$2,000. Every quote is free.
Who handles the gas line?
Natural gas and propane connections are made by a licensed plumber under a separate gas/plumbing permit. We coordinate the plumber, the gas permit and any gas-meter upgrade so you deal with one point of contact.
Are there rebates for home generators on Long Island?
We're not aware of a PSEG Long Island rebate for home standby generators. Manufacturers sometimes run seasonal promotions, so ask at your estimate.
Is financing available for a generator?
Yes, financing is available on qualifying projects. Ask when you request your estimate.
Is it cheaper to install an EV charger and a generator at the same time?
Often, yes. One load calculation covers both, and if your panel needs an upgrade, it only gets done once. Ask us to quote them together.
Why do online prices vary so much?
Most of the difference comes from distance to the panel, panel capacity and, for generators, the gas run and generator size. That's why we give a fixed price only after seeing the site.
